*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*

The sunlight peeks in past the blinds. The bed is warm, and the room is cold.

*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP* *Thump*

Ahh, blissful quiet. His eyes closing back up, senses fading to nothing but the warmth of the bed, a slight chill to the feet.

... out because I don't like the race
of rats that run round and round in the maze
I'm goin' surfin', I'm goin surfin'!

Mad rush across the room, to turn off that insanely loud noise. He still needs the backup alarm of course. Has for years. Still hasn't gotten used to waking up every day at 6:15 for work. Bed still looks inviting, but he don't want to be late again.

The still cold stream of water hitting him wakes him up immediately. As it warms up, and he starts to lather, he hears the strains of music coming in from his roommate's stereo. God damned good thing it's not the weekend, playing music this early. Some of us like to sleep in.

...can bring you red flowers
My intentions are good and earnest and true
but under my hood is internal combustion power
satan is my motor hear my motor purr

I believe them bones are me
Some say we're born into the grave
I feel so alone, gonna end up a
Big ol' pile a them bones

Sitting at a table upstairs, the teacher sips his coffee and finishes off his cornflakes. As per usual, the newspaper has nothing good to say. But Dilbert is still funny.

He downs his coffee, puts his bowl in the sink, and turns off the stereo, grabbing his briefcase as he heads out the door.

Pulling out of the driveway, he turns the radio to the local classic rock station.

Gonna get down to it soldiers are cutting us down
Should have been down long ago
What if you knew her and found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know.

Sometimes he wonders to himself when something like Kent State is going to happen again. It isn't just a bunch of peace loving hippies protesting now a days. Anarchists and radicals, one of these days at one of those protests, someone's going to start lobbing rocks or worse at cops, and it isn't going to be tear gas they fire back.

On a dark desert highway
Cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas
Rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance
I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy, and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night

Arriving 20 minutes early for class, he manages to finish marking the last of the math tests from last week, just as the students start filing in. They didn't do as well as he'd hoped, but then again, they never do.

Damn, I feel like the Son of Sam
Don't make me wreck shit, hectic
Next get the chair got me goin like General Electric
And, the lights are blinkin I'm thinkin'
It's all over when I go out drinkin'
Ohh, makin my mind slow
That's why I don't fuck with the big four-oh
Bro, I got ta' maintain'
Cause a nigga like me is goin insane

Great, math class again. How useless is this? Thank god that the teacher doesn't really care if you sit there with your headphones on, as long as you're not bugging other students. Tools. Think they're better than me just because they're good at this shit.

Yeah my durango number 95
Take me to the home
Kick boots and ultra live
See heaven flash a horrorshow
Knock it nice and smooth
Step back and watch it flow yeah

Thank god, that's finally over. Now just to sit through social studies, and then lunch. Hmmmmm, I wonder if that redhead hottie is going to be wearing as low cut of a shirt as yesterday. Maybe class won't be all that bad.

All the playing's stopped in the playground now
She wants to play with her toys a while
And school's out early and soon we'll be learning
And the lesson today is how to die

Every gal in Constantinople
Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople
So if you've a date in Constantinople
She'll be waiting in Istanbul

It really is distracting to be leered at in the middle of class. The redhead was trying to pay attention to history class, but anytime the teacher got to something interesting about Queen Victoria, that idiot kept on trying to look down her shirt.

The young queen, she fixed him with an arrogant eye
She said, "you won't understand, and you may as well not try"
But her face was a child's, and he thought she would cry
But she closed herself up like a fan

Somehow, she managed to ignore the fool, and concentrate on some English history. Definitely time for some Starbucks.

You date a girl and find out later
She smells just like a percolator
Her perfume was made right on the grill
Why they could percolate the ocean in Brazil

Customer after customer. Yuppies getting their fix of latte-mocha-whatever with chocolate sprinkles. After about 4 hours, the barista's feet are killing him. As per usual. But hey, what else can a poor starving college student do for some extra cash?

They get up every morning from their long clock's warning
Take the eight fifteen into the city
There's a whistle up above and people push and people shoving
and the girl's who try to look pretty
and if your train's on time you can get to work by nine
and start to sleep and talk to get your pay

Finally finished work. But what to do? There is that thermo assignment. But, then again, buddy's birthday is tonight. Oh yeah, time to spend some of that hard earned money.

Now, that I got me some Seagram's gin
Everybody got they cups, but they ain't chipped in
Now this types of shit happens all the time
You got to get yours but fool I gotta get mine

The club is hopping. Smoke hangs in the air, and the dance floor is packed with half dressed young men and women, sliding against each other to the music. It's been a wonderful day.

And those that had money
Looked good but weren't too happy
And those who didn't have money
Didn't look so good and weren't too happy either
And in a city of three million
Two hundred and sixty nine thousand
Nine hundred eighty four
Everyone was lonely

Track Listing:

And yes, this is my entry for round 3 of the Everything Noder Pageant. You should go check out what everyone else is doing too, since they're probably doing it better than me.

After all, mine is just a really ... well ... random mix tape. I mean, personally, I think each of these songs flows well into the next one, but taken overall, yeah, they're rather dissimilar.
