The full name of the protagonist in the children's book 'Tikki Tikki Tembo', based on an old Chinese
folk tale. Tikki tikki tembo-no sa rembo-chari bari ruchi-pip peri pembo was given his extremely long name by
Chinese parents who wanted to give their firstborn son a proud name. His extensive
moniker allegedly means 'the most wonderful thing in the whole wide world'.
His long name spells trouble however, when he fall into a stone well and his brother Chang must fetch help. Because he is out of breath from running all the way back to his mother, he has trouble relaying to her that his brother has fallen into the well, because of the excess number of syllables that he must pronounce.
Because of this unfortunate mishap, Chinese parents stopped giving their firstborn children long and elaborate names, settling on short, more easy to pronounce handles.
