In 1919, the
Bolsheviks had toppled the mighty Romanoffs from the Russian throne and the land was swept up in Revolution. Into this net fell Krepysh, a
race horse owned by a rich nobleman, and one that had been a favorite of the
Czar. The famous horse was actually arrested for treason, brought to trial before a
court martial, and was made to stand and face the drumhead court while the military prosecutor demanded
death.
"He is an enemy of the people. I demand death to the traitor!" shouted the prosecutor. Unable to speak on his behalf, the 'turf pet of the oppressor' was found guilty to high treason and executed by a military firing squad.
He's known as the horse that died like a man.
