The estoc is a two-handed sword, the precursor to the rapier. It originated in Germany. It is fairly long and has almost no edge. The blade is usually triangular or diamond shaped and has a very sharp point. It was used for piercing things such as the joints in armor, chain mail, and other people. When used, it is often gripped by the hilt with one hand and the blade in the other hand. It was often carried without a sheath on the back or slung over a shoulder.
