A milagro, which means "miracle" in Spanish, is an image offered to a deity or saint as a form of prayer or wish or in gratitude for desires that were fulfilled. Milagros are also called "ex votos." Colonial Latin American milagros are based in neolithic offerings and votary figures of the bronze age which were continued in the traditions of Greece, Rome, Catholicism and Hinduism. Sometimes prayers are written on milagros, but this is not a necessity.
