Michigan International Speedway was first built in 1968 with 18 degree banking and 73 foot sweeping turns. When MIS first opened it had one 12,000 seat center grandstand with smaller seating on both sides boasting well over 25,000 total seats. The race track has grown to be the largest arena in the state of Michigan, which is something considering the Big House in Ann Arbor.

MIS is a D-shaped, two mile oval with a 2,242 foot long backstretch and a front stretch of 2,229 feet long. The pit lane is 50 feet wide and has space for 44 individual pit areas.

MIS is home to the ARCA Flagstar 200, the Nascar Winston Cup Michigan 400, the Nascar Craftsman Truck Series Michigan 200, the Michigan Indy 400, the Michigan Bush Series 250 and the Pepsi 400.
