The home of the offical Battle Colors of the Marine Corps is located at the Marine Barracks in Washington, D.C.. A copy is kept in the office of the Commandant of the Marine Corps. The Battle Colors bear the streamers autorized for the corps as well.

Up until 1925, the were a variety of flags carried into the field by the Marines. It was Marine Corps Order Number 4 that designated the gold and scarlet color used today. The Marine Corps flag was not offically changed until 1939.

There are 50 colored streamers which represent the history of the Corps with the latest one being for service in Kosovo.
