Dichlorobenzyl alcohol in its pure form is white or slightly yellow crystals, with a melting point of 57-60°c and a boiling point of around 150°c.

Dichlorobenzyl alcohol is used in a variety of manners. It is mainly used as preservative in cosmetics, but is also used for its anti-microbial properties in products such as skin creams, shampoos, deodorants, cough lozenges, and veterinary medicines.
