According to Philip McMichael ("Development and Social Change", xxviii), the term "mixmaster belongim jesus" means "helicopter" in New Guinean Pidgin English. This usage connects the divine- Jesus- with the commercial- mixmaster, that is, a brand of food processor. In a troubling reaction to being confronted with technological goods that they do not possess- food processors, helicopters- a small number of New Guineans have formed cargo cults. The leaders of these forcast millenial fantasies in which goods from Western countries will fall from the sky, or otherwise be magically bestowed upon them and their followers.
