Khajuraho, in the state of Madhya Pradesh,
India is well-known for its
temples. Rediscovered in 1838, the temples of Khajuraho are a very fine example of Hindu-Aryan
architecture. Of the over 60 built around 1000 AD, 22 still stand.
The temples of Khajuraho are defintely worth a detour, are listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites List and are sure to stimulate thought. Well, not only though - what makes them famous is that they are the most erotic/pornographic examples of sculpting you will find in India.
Even without erotic content, the skill of the artists of that time is something one has to see to believe.
