Henry Rollins read this
letter from one of his fans aloud at a
spoken word show:
Hello Henry! I'm
sorry for my
English but I understand
English very little.
Thank you for your
favor. My name is
Boris have 24 years in write
Czech Republic. You played in Czech 2x. Both concerts, they were
splendid! On 2 concert I'm should
collective photo, but such small,
fat, bald-headed technologist be
insane. I
compilation all
material for
you and
band. I would like to
read of your some
book but she
don't publishing in
Czech language. This
book should be
successful in
Czech Republic.
I you very much for
autograph or
publicity material or
answer in my
letter.
Thanks a lot for it! I wish for
you band much
power,
health, and
energy at
further way music.
Goodbye in
future concert in
Czech Republic, Boris.
Henry makes it clear that he's not
putting Boris down. He says he's "a fan of the use of
language, a fan of
English" and that makes him enjoy the letter. He points out to the
audience that Boris is somewhat getting by in
English while not many of them can speak
Czech. "You can say, 'Check, please.' but you can't get by in
Czech."
He
cites this
sentence as one of the
best he's ever seen in his
life:
"On 2
concert I'm should
collective photo, but such small,
fat, bald-headed technologist be
insane."
"In translation, I think he took his roll of film to
Rite-Aid and had a bad Rite-Aid
experience... I think Boris got his
film fucked up by the 'technologist' who must be..WHOO! a little
insane."
Tastes like
Engrish.
