British author, one of the forgotten stars from the Golden Age of science fiction. He wrote a number of novels including The Space Willies aka Next of Kin, Men, Martians, and Machines and many novellas which were Ace Doubles. His stories were known for their humour and wit. He stopped writing SF in about 1965. He won a Hugo Award for the story "Allamagoosa."

I greatly enjoy his short story Top Secret and will sometimes reread it if I need cheering up.

Self-described as "6'2" tall with grey-brown hair, green eyes and look as if I should have been hanged at Nuremberg," he died (peacefully) in 1976.
