His Royal Highness Prince Carl Philip Edmund Bertil of
Sweden, the Duke of Värmland, was born on May 13, 1979. He is the only son of King
Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen
Silvia. From the time of his birth he was the
Crown Prince of Sweden but the
Act of Succession changed to
cognatic primogeniture on January 1, 1980, making his older sister,
Princess Victoria, the Crown Princess of Sweden. He has a younger sister, the
Princess Madeleine
From 1984 to 1986, Prince Carl Philip attended Västerled parish pre-school In the fall of 1986 he went onto Smedslättsskolan, then attending Ålstensskolan, both in Bromma and finally Enskilda Gymnasiet, in Stockholm. In 1994 he entered the Kent School, in Kent, Connecticut where he studied for two years. From 1996 until graduating in 1999, the Prince attended Lundbergs Upper Secondary School, in Värmland. In 2003 the Prince began studying graphic design, in Stockholm, and completed the course in 2006. He is currently an intern at the National Geographic Society in Washington, D.C..
In the fall of 2000 the Prince completed his military training and holds the rank of sub-lieutenant in the Royal Swedish Navy.
