On Jan. 1st, JFK became the “Carrier of the New Millennium” by being the only carrier underway as the year 2000 arrived. Her triumphant return to Mayport, Florida on March 19, 2000, marked the completion of yet another successful forward deployment as one of our nation’s most visible guarantors of support for our allies and freedom of the seas. -- from the carrier's command history in http://www.navy.mil/homepages/cv67/history.html

This week, in Military Salute Week the President of the United States and people all over the world visited the ships of OpSail 2000 and the International Naval Review. One ships I wanted to visit is the USS John F. Kennedy, named after the original Big John. This ship has been deployed often in the Mediterranean Sea since its deployment, and receives the gratitude again in the year 2000 by civilians like myself for watching over the Middle East.
