Medium-sized city in eastern New Mexico, incorporated in 1909 and named after the famous French king. It has a population of approximately 40,000 people, and is the county seat of Curry County. The average temperature is 57 degrees, and about 17 inches of rain fall every year. The city's economy is largely driven by agriculture, Clovis Community College, and Cannon Air Force Base, which is located on the outskirts of the city.

Other local attractions include the Blackwater Draw Museum and Archaeological Site, located about 12 miles to the south; the Hillcrest Park Zoo, a very nice, very inexpensive zoo with about 500 animals; the Norman Petty Studios, where Lubbock natives Buddy Holly and the Crickets recorded "Peggy Sue"; and the Clovis Model Train Museum, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Some of the truck stops have pretty good food, too.
