Counterpunch is a bi-weekly political newsletter founded sometime in 1997 with headquarters in Petrolia, California U.S.A (not to be confused with Petrolia, Ontario in Canada), The editors are Alexander Cockburn and Jeffrey St. Clair, who have also co-authored the book Whiteout: The CIA, Drugs and the Press and co-edited The Politics Of Antisemitism. Alexander writes columns for The Nation and wrote Al Gore: A User's Manual. Jeffrey St. Clair has written Been Brown So Long, It Looked Like Green to Me: The Politics of Nature. Columnists include journalists, scholars, specialists and activists.

I have read many articles therein, although I am not an avid reader. I have invariably found them to be curious and enlightening. The editors' official agenda is "muckracking (see The Gilded Age) with a radical attitude" which is no understatement. The scope of issues is international and includes politics, economics, foreign policy, environmental, (non fiction) book reviews, weapon industry and labor industry. The newsletter is also available in print which is sold in annual subscriptions and can be paid on the Internet. The on-line version can be reached at
