458489 B Sides. The single was released by
Beggars Banquet in both
7" and
12", though 'Tuff Life
Boogie' is the only B side for the 7". Typically, the 7" contains almost no information apart from the tracks; written on the back is;
sleeve credits: 7" - none
Part of The Fall's incarnation as
new-wave popstars (well, they *tried* to be), the song is the companion to their reasonably successfully charting cover of
The Kinks. In my opinion, this and
Ludd Gang make some of the best Fall B Sides, and either the single or the compilation are definitely
worth adding to your collection, even if you're just a casual Fall listener. The music starts off as a nice
jangly guitar pop number, then a bit of a laid back drawl, but once the
chorus kicks in the songs'
dark intentions are revealed. There is some nice
intensive drumming, especially during the chorus, and it is good to see the band backing up
Smith with the vocals. Even wife
Brix Smith gets in on the act, hamming up the chorus wonderfully, although her vocal levels are very low in the mix. Perhaps Mark got jealous? Anyway, the sone is an enjoyable sub-three minute slice of pop,
skewed of course to something slightly strange by The Fall.
