Ferris Bueller is the central character in the 1986 film Ferris Bueller's Day Off, directed and written by John Hughes. Played to perfection by a young Matthew Broderick, Ferris is the embodiment of Senior Cool. He has only a few weeks left of high school, an institution which he treats with the cynical dismissal it deserves. He's a very smart guy. He can hack into the school computer system to remove absences, (a reference to WarGames, probably) he rigs a moving dummy to fake his body in bed, complete with sound effects. Ferris can talk his way into many a great situation, and he knows how to enjoy himself. He's a great philosopher. Justifying skipping school (in the shower, talking to camera):
I do actually have a test. That wasn't bullshit.
That I care about it was...

It's on European socialism. I mean, really. What's the point? I'm not European. I don't plan to be European. So, who gives a shit if they're socialists? They could be fascist anarchists and it still wouldn't change the fact that I don't own a car...

Not that I condone fascism. Or any "isms". "Isms", in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an "ism". He should believe in himself. John Lennon said it on his first solo album. "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me." A good point there. After all, he was the Walrus...**

Ferris is the ideal high school student. Not only is he cool and smart, he and his friends are quite rich as well. He's popular with pretty much every class of kid conceivable, at least, in 1986. As the secretary says, "He's very popular, Ed. Sportos, motorheads, geeks, sluts, pinheads, dweebies, wonkers, richies, they all adore him."* His friend's dad has a hot convertible and his GF is a babe. We all want to go have fun with Ferris on that lovely late spring day. Save Ferris!!!!
* From original screenplay, the movie might have been different.
** Dutchess says that Paul was the walrus. I don't know...
