Supermarket chain to be found in the North of England. Targeting the middle-to-lower end of the market, Morrisons sell food which is cheaper than at Sainsbury's, but not quite as shoddy or cheap as Kwik Save or Aldi.

The stores have a market street theme, with stands devoted to vegetables, fish, meat etc, as well as the usual aisles and freezer compartments.

The company was founded by William Morrison in 1899. The business began by selling just eggs and butter in Bradford, West Yorkshire, and grew to open a small town-centre shop in 1958. In the New Year's Honours list of 2000, Ken Morrison was awarded a Knighthood for services to food retailing.
