Arthur Tudor (14861502) was the oldest son of King Henry VII and Elizabeth of York. Arthur was born at Winchester and named for the legendary King Arthur. Many saw a lot of promise in him to carry on the newly created Tudor Dynasty. Arthur's father seeking a strong Catholic alliance betrothed his son at a young age to marry Catherine of Aragon, the Princess of Spain.

Many pretenders to the throne such as Edward Plantagenet, 17th Earl of Warwick and Perkin Warbeck, threatened his chances, but they were soon put to death.

Arthur and Catherine married in 1501 after a long courtship, which mainly involved writing many love letters to each other in Latin, which both were fluent in. The Prince was very sickly and died shortly after the marriage, at the age of fifteen. Arthur's younger brother would become king after their father's death and even marry his brother's widow; he was Henry VIII.
