The
dynasty starting from
Henry II of England, deriving its name from the surname of his father
Geoffrey of Anjou, from his badge of a
broom plant (
planta genista). Because their territory was
Anjou in France, they are also known as
Angevin outside England, particularly in relation to the
Norman kingdom of
Sicily, which was ruled by Angevins.
In the Palliser novels of Trollope, Plantagenet Palliser became prime minister as well as Duke of Omnium and Gatherum. He was married to Glencora (played by Susan Hampshire in the TV series).
