publishing house was known as the
Aldine press.
Aldus Manutius the Elder lived from 1449 to 1515. He published editions of Aristotle and Theocritus in 1495; of Virgil, Petrarch, Martial, and Juvenal in 1501; and of Catullus, Lucan, Thucydides, Sophocles, Herodotus, and Dante in 1502. The Dante was the first to use the famous Aldine colophon of the anchor and dolphin. Thereafter he published Euripides, Xenophon, Pindar, Homer, Aesop, Plato, Horace, and Erasmus. Hey, the whole darn shootin' match. In most cases this was the first printing of these works.
The Aldine family printed about a thousand editions in the years to 1595.
