Each
emotion has a
color associated with it and vice-versa. It is seen a lot in
poetry. The emotions and colors have become associated by time and tradition. The roots of this phenomenon seem to be in
Hinduism, and the belief that the color of a person's
aura refects his emotions at a certain time.
(Don't hold me to this, I have not studied the origins of the connection between color and emotion. I have only made deductions from what I do know).

In poetry, you will find mostly just the major colors, and with their most
obvious connotations (White - purity, black - death, red - love, blue - sadness, green - jealousy, yellow- fear, brown - illness and purple - anger).
The colors stand for many things, whereas I have written only the main emotion. For example, yellow is also associated with intelligence, and blue is also associated with honesty, worry and spirituality.
