Today,
Volkswagen (not Volkswag
on !) has the
best diesel
engines. Other folks use a
common rail system to get higher pression in the
cylinders. Not Volkswagen, for they use an
injection pump for every separate cylinder.
Pump injection (as does common rail) gives you high pressure diesel injection which only has advantages *.
As a side note, here in Europe, Diesel is a hell of a lot cheaper than gasoline. And you need less of it, too, because with diesel your mileage is somewhat better.
* : well, not exactly, really. The makers of the engines say that high-pressure diesel engines produces less pollution. This is true, but in fact they produce *just as much pollution particles* as their low-pressure alternatives, it's only that these particles are *smaller*. And smaller particles means they get easier in to your lungs and can cause more damage.
