The central story in the Ulster Cycle. The title translates as the "Cattle Raid of Cooley", using the common motif of the cattle raid. The story goes that the rulers of Connacht, Aillil and Medb, had an argument over which was the more powerful. Finding herself short one bull, Medb sought to steal the great bull of Ulster. The Ulstermen being put asleep by a spell, the entire Connaught army fought, and was defeated by the young hero Cuchulainn.
