Legendary Catholic Saint. According to Legend, Wilgefortis was the christian daughter of a pagan king. She was commanded by her father to marry a foreign prince, but had already taken a solemn vow of chastity. In order to keep her vow without openly defying her father's command, she prayed that her body would be disfigured so the Prince would reject her, God granted her prayer by causing her to grow a miraculous beard. Her father then ordered that she be crucified and she died a martyr.
