Representative, an individual standing as a type. The representative theory contended for by Swainson and other quinarians was that in each circle particular types were recommended. In every circle of birds, for instance, there were raptorial, insessorial, rasorial, grallatorial, and natatorial types. Any representative of these was analogous to the corresponding type in all other circles.
