Fellahs,
the people in Egypt who live in villages and till the soil. They form three-fourths of the population; are the most ancient race in that country, and are generally believed to be the descendants of the old Egyptians, their physiognomy resembling that which is found on the ancient sculptures. They are a patient and laborious population, and were heavily taxed before the period of English influence in the government.
