LH (luteinizing hormone): a gonadotropin secreted by the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland that stimulates testosterone secretion from the testis, in the male, and the formation of the corpus luteum and the secretion of progesterone from the ovary, in the female; one of the gonadotropic hormones of the pituitary gland. It induces release of the egg from the graafian follicle and transformation of the latter into a corpus luteum. LH in the female is the same as ICSH (interstitial cell stimulating hormone), which stimulates testosterone production in the male;
