The older of the two unions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, construction on the Memorial Union started in 1927 and was completed on 5 October 1928. It quickly became a focal point of campus life and remains one to this day. As the larger of the two buildings, it houses many student organizations, two theatres, the Rathskeller, and the Terrace, among other things. It also became the first college union to serve beer in 1933, which makes a lot of sense if you've been to Wisconsin.
