The narrator of Len Deighton's 1960s spy novels (like "The IPCRESS File", "Funeral in Berlin" and "Billion Dollar Brain)" works for a secret service outfit; and among other things: was born in Burnley, is an Aquarian, wears glasses, is a tad plump, likes Blue Mountain coffee, has a top-flight hi-fi system, is bad at crosswords. We're told all this and more, but not his name. So, in the movies based on those books he was called Harry Palmer and played by Michael Caine (but the books suggest he looked more like Deighton himself). The antithesis of James Bond.
