A glücksschwein is a German good luck charm. It is a small model of a pig. When you are lucky, the Germans say "Du hast Schwein gehabt," which means "you have had pig." The reason for this is that this phrase was coined during hard times in Germany when having a pig to eat was a sign of good fortune. I bought my glücksschwein in New Braunfels, Texas, a town settled by German immigrants.
