The International Society for Krishna Consciousness. Originally a sectarian Hindu group in India, it has small but highly visible followings abroad. In the U.S.A. it is a relatively new religious movement, and its adherents are informally known as Hare Krishnas. This is a reference to the first two words of their oft-repeated chant.
