A Wilderness Area is a tract of undisturbed land that has been set aside by an Act of Congress for preservation as a, well, wilderness. There can be no roads inside the boundaries, and no automobiles, or bicycles are allowed in the confines eiter.

Wilderness areas are set aside so that future generations will have the ability to see and apreciate nature. They are used mostly by backpackers, horsepersons, and biologists. They also preserve some of the most delicate habitat around, the Alpine tundra.
