General Aviation refers mainly to civil, non-commercial aviation. The General Aviation community is generally where many commercial pilots start. This was not
always the case; historically most airline pilots came from the military. Aviation training and some smaller
commercial operations are bundled in with General
Aviation.
There are various organizations that support the General Aviation community. The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association is one of the leading supporters of the GA community. See AOPA
