Brand name of atorvastatin (calcium)
Indications
As an adjunct to diet in hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia, and in the treatment of elevated serum triglycerides.
Dosage for adults
Start at 10 to 20 mg per day, 10 to 40 mg daily for inherited cholesterol disorders. Maximum dosage is 80 mg.
Dosage for child
Not usually recommended.

Lipitor became the number one prescribed medication in the United States in the year 2000. It reduces heart attack risk by 30 percent, and can cause regression of plaques in the coronary arteries. Reduces the death rate from heart attacks by 42 percent. Reduces stroke risk by 30 percent, and risk of dementia by up to 70% (!) Lipitor also shows some anti-oxidant effects and shows benefits to risk levels even in patients with normal cholesterol levels.
