A
volatile,
toxic, colorless gas or liquid that is frequently used as a
fumigant; it is similar in structure to
chloroform. It is known to be a powerful
ozone-destroying chemical, but it is broken down by some
bacteria; there is much
scientific debate on how much danger methyl bromide poses to the
ozone layer.
