Made by Toyota corporation of Japan, the MR2 is arguably one of the best sports cars toyota ever made. 1995 was the last year the MR2 was made and imported to north america.

Two generations of the vehicles were produced, refered to as Mk1 (1985-1989) and Mk2(1991-1995). The vehicles produced in 1985 came with 112bhp, later in 1987 the option of a supercharger was introduced, providing 145bhp. Development of the Mk2 MR2 began in late 1989 and began production in 1990. Available in either Normally Aspirated (135bhp) or Turbo (200bhp) flavors, the 2nd generation proved to be a worthy enhancement of the original.

There were rumors that the original design of the Mk1 MR2 was a scraped lotus design called the X100. The rumor was never officially substantiated, though at first glance the car looks foreign of any Toyota body design. Most owners affectionately refer to their vehicles as "The Mister" or a "2".

Currently Toyota is marketing a car which they hope will continue the successful lineage of the MR2 family, called the MR2 Spyder.
