The instantly recognizable signature of the German propagandist William Joyce (Lord Haw Haw). Joyce started each broadcast into World War II Britain with the phrase "Germany calling, Germany calling."
It seems that the phrase is now being employed by a number of European calling card and long-distance telephone marketing campaigns. Once again, I must ask the question: are they evil, or ignorant of the connotation?
