A boxer's break is the common term for a fracture
of the fifth metacarpal
. The name is derived from the most common cause of the break- punching
something a bit too hard for your own good. Most are caused by beating on walls
, fences, and other immovable objects
. There isn't much to be done to cure the break, like most other fractures... immobilization
and painkillers are the standard treatment.
