福建

Fujian is a Chinese province on the southeastern coast of China, across the Taiwan Strait from Taiwan.

Fujian got its name during the Tang Dynasty by combining the names of two cities in the province - Fuzhou (the current provincial capital]) and Jianzhou.

Fujian is home to the Fujianese dialect, and most of the people now considered "native" Taiwanese in Taiwan were originally immigrants from Fujian.

Fujian is heavily mountainous, and has traditionally been described as "eight parts mountain, one part water, one part farmland" (八山一水一分田).

The 2009 population of Fujian province was 36,270,000.
