In later eras and in modern Hebrew this word means "abomination", and this is the way it is usually translated in English and other language Bibles.

However, research shows that in the Biblical Era it had a different meaning, and instead of "abomination" it simply means: thing that are done by other nations which you should detest, in order to emphasize your being special.

The word usually refers to religious customs held by other people such as: tattoos, scratching of the face until it bleeds, mixing wool with other types of cloth, the existance of temple prostitutes and male homosexual intercourse.
