(Short for AMERICAN FAMILY LIFE ASSURANCE COMPANY OF COLUMBUS )

Aflac is a leading provider of supplemental insurance sold in the workplace in the United States, as well as the largest foreign insurer in Japan. Aflac insures more than 40 million people worldwide, offering policies to employees at over 160,000 payroll accounts.

Aflac was founded in 1955 by John, Bill, and Paul Amos. One of the first Cancer expense insurance policies was introduced by Aflac in 1958. Initially operating in Georgia and Alabama, Aflac had spread across much of the southeast by the mid-1960s. In 1974, Aflac became the second American company in history licensed to sell insurance products in Japan. That same year, they also introduced Japan's first supplemental cancer expense insurance policy. Today, Aflac operates in all 50 states.

The greatest development from Aflac would probably be their first duck commercial. AFLAC!
