hello, enjoyed reading about .22 short(.22-3-29) We all of us have heard ad nausiam of how Smith & wesson developed this ctg. & brought out their little hinged frame revolver for it. What I have never seen in print anywhere is who brought out the first RIFLE? Some will say the Win. 1873, and yes this was chambered in .22 short & long, but this is 16 years later! someone must have thought that little ctg. would make a fine squirrel rifle round? I am thinking the early brass/nickle plated Wesson..the two trigger model..one trigger opened action like break-open shotgun. Have seen very early ones with changeable firing pins..rim to centerfire in .32. Next guess would be Rem. or Whitney rolling block. Any opinions out there? this is too important a historical fact to just pass by. thanks.
