A type of grape used primarily to make currants, a type of small raisin. Zantes are tiny, sweet, seedless, and purple; sighmoan informs me that they are also known as champagne grapes because they're really tiny and come in big bunches, thus resembling bubbly foam.
Zante grapes originated in Greece and are named after one of the Ionian Islands, Zante or Zakinthos, also known as Zacynthus. Though the island continues to produce currants, today the bulk of zante grapes are grown in California and Australia, the world's top raisin producers.
