The WebSurfer is a hackable internet appliance similiar to the Netpliance I-Opener. The WebSurfer only costs $50 and can run any operating system with a few modifications and the addition of a hard drive.

A websurfer is also a person who explores ('surfs') the World Wide Web, usually by the conventional means of a web browser.

I can only surmise the origins of this peculiar epithet but I imagine it has something to do with people daft enough risk drowning in the vast ocean of information, advertising, and pornography that is the WWW.

At least it isn't another information superhighway metaphor...
