Wacky Races was a Hanna-Barbera cartoon series that ran from 1968 to 1970 (and is constantly shown in repeats).
In each episode, various wacky characters with equally wacky cars competed in a daring cross-country race. The competitors:

02 - The Gruesome Twosome, driving the Creepy Coupe.

03 - Professor Pat Pending, driving the Convert-A-Car.

04 - Red Max, driving the Crimson Haybailer.

05 - Penelope Pitstop, driving the Compact Pussycat.

06 - Meekley and Sarge, driving the Army Surplus Special.

07 - The Ant Hill Mob, driving the Bullet Proof Bomb.

08 - Luke and Blubber, driving the Arkansas Chug-a-Bug.

09 - Peter Perfect, driving the Turbo Terrific.

10 - Rufus Ruffcut and Sawtooth, driving the the Buzzwagon.
Despite the presence of two obvious 'hero' type characters, Penelope Pitstop and Peter Perfect, the show never really focused one one character, and you could never be sure who would win the race each episode. The footage would cut frequently from one character to another, with the commentator giving continual updates on the progress of each car.
If anything, Dastardly and Muttley were the true stars of the show. Every episode they would conspire to cheat their way to victory, but they never succeeded.
