An attempt by coders to develop a video standard architecture for Linux. Often referred to as V4L, these people have managed to get Brooktree or Conextant based cards such as the WinTV to work under X11 to watch tv. There are many new drivers in development, including a driver for the Iomega BUZ, as well as other cards based on Zoran chipsets. They are working on the upcoming Video for Linux 2 API, which is a big improvement in many way. V4L devices are typically accessed thru /dev/video.
