Contraction of "video" and "capture", vidcap refers to video which has been digitized (and usually heavily compressed) and that resides on a computer or computer-readable media.

Unlike a video tape or film, a vidcap can be moved from computer to computer easily because of its digital format and relatively small file size. Most vidcaps are only selected portions of the source movie or film for reasons of file size and limitations of video capturing hardware.
