British term for what everyone else presumably calls a payphone. Operated by British Telecom or BT, they used to be iconic big red metal and glass boxes, now extensively defunct and/or sold on postcards to tourists who think they're cute. Replace by soulless plastic devices in day-glo colours. But hey, what can you do?
Uses: Creative drug-taking; as a measure of prosperity in urban centres (check how many of the little glass window panes have been put through; urinal (for drunks, especially in Chester - unpleasant).
